BBC trumpets new visual feast for viewers.
Always at the forefront of technology, the BBC has announced that it is to begin trials of a new line standard.
Since 1985, television in Britain has been on the 625-line “standard definition” system invented in Europe. This new system promises far better programmes and more realism than 625-lines can provide.
The new standard, which uses 405 lines, will be testing today from the Alexandra Palace transmitter until noon.
