Labour’s commitment to an independent BBC: from lip-service to mouthpiece in one simple war?

Ok, so the parallels aren’t really there: the BBC is a state-owned broadcaster but (thank you thank you thank you) remarkably independently minded.
AzerTAj is a state news agency, perhaps the complete opposite of the above, in all ways.
To most Brits, and most of the western world, the BBC is a paragon of virtue and something like AzerTAj is a terrible joke.
But only to most Brits. I have a terrible feeling that the people who occupy our parliament would quite happily see the BBC reduced to the state mouthpiece.
Until they find themselves in opposition again, of course.
