Greg Dyke Resigns

BBC director general Dyke stands down

By standing down at this point, Greg Dyke hopes that a line can be finally drawn under the whole Hutton Report affair; in the short term this may be wishful thinking, but it was clearly evident this morning from watching BBC News 24 that he was under intense pressure to sacrifice his position in order to reduce the real risk of the BBC being radically ‘reformed’, and as a result he has made the right decision to do so regardless of the rights or wrongs of the allegations. Let’s hope that any changes made will not result in the BBC’s impartiality being curtailed either directly or indirectly.
